Product range

Lotryl® resins are suitable for many applications where an excellent thermal stability and good processability are required. Thanks to their outstanding adhesive properties and excellent compatibility with thermoplastics, Lotryl® copolymers are used as impact modifiers for engineering plastics (PET, PBT), base material for highly filled compounds (Wire & Cables, masterbatches), sealable layers and films in flexible packaging.





Lotryl® is easy to process by coextrusion coating, cast film coextrusion, blown film coextrusion or sheet coextrusion, to produce multilayer structures.

For instance, they can be used as lids or protective films.

Heat seal layers for peelable applications

Used as top layer of such laminates, Lotryl® provides the functions of heat sealability onto various substrates and easy opening by interfacial peeling. The composition and chemical structure of Lotryl® give optimum compatibility with PP, PS, PET and PVC, which leads to well balanced properties combining strength of sealing and ease of peeling.

Lotryl can be used in combination with a range of masterbatches to enhance slip and antiblock properties, available on request.

Typical examples of constructions are:

Aluminum foil / EAA or Lotader® / Lotryl®(Coextrusion coating)

OPET / Lotader® / LDPE / Lotryl®(Coextrusion coating)

OPET / PU Adh. / LDPE / Lotryl® (Blown film + adhesive lamination)

Paper / Lotader® / PA6 / Lotader® / Lotryl® (Coextrusion coating)

Soft touch film

Lotryl® resins are easy to process by blown and cast extrusion for making monolayer or coextruded films. Available grades allow the end customer to adjust flexibility, sealability and adhesion.

It is recommended to use special additives during extrusion in order to adjust slip and antiblocking properties of the final film. It can be done using available Arkema masterbatches.

Combination of flexibility (use of high co-monomer content grades of Lotryl) and additives (slip, antiblock) leads to films having so called “Soft Touch” feeling.

For example, such films can be used to make disposable gloves.

At very low shear rate, Lotryl 24MA005 (fractional MFI) becomes viscous and his melt strength is adapted to large width, thick blown film extrusion and for blow moulding of heavy parisons (pouches).

Advantages of such soft touch films:


  • No plasticizer added in the polymer
  • Flexible film with good touch
  • Sealability
  • Elastic properties for high acrylate ratio


Modification of engineering plastics

Thanks to their excellent thermal stability and high flexibility, Lotryl® resins can be used as impact modifiers for engineering plastics.

Engineering plastics (for example polyesters and polyamides) have good mechanical and thermal properties but their main weakness is their poor impact resistance, especially in presence of notch.

A well-established solution consists in homogeneously dispersing small particles of an elastomeric polymer such as Lotryl® resins (low Tg) into the rigid matrix to inhibit its brittle behavior.

Combinations of Lotryl® and Lotader® resins are often used to adjust impact properties and rheology.

Advantages offered by Lotryl® copolymers:

High impact resistance thanks to low Tg (below -30°C)

Lotryl® copolymers are flexible copolymers to absorb energy and avoid craze propagation

Excellent thermal stability which makes it compatible with the usual processing temperatures of polyesters and polyamides (> 250°C)

Lotryl® copolymers have excellent weatherability, thanks to their chemistry based on ethylene and acrylate monomer

Lotryl® copolymers offer a wide range of melt index to match the customers requirements


Semi-conductive compounds

Semi-conductive layers, internal, external are designed to protect XLPE, EPR insulation layer.

They are blends of Lotryl BA resins and carbon black (up to 40%).

To avoid premature cable failure due to insulation breakdown, Lotryl® semi-conductive layers ensure:


  • Good thermal stability for extrusion and curing steps
  • Good adhesion to the conductor and insulation layer
  • Smooth and homogenous carbon black dispersion
  • Easy processing during compounding and extrusion steps
  • Excellent peroxide cross-linking reactivity


High fluidity Lotryl 35BA320 allows compound viscosity adjustment.


Hot melt adhesives

Lotryl® and Lotryl® HMA copolymers are used as structural base in hot melt adhesives formulation especially when thermal stability and cold flexibility are required.

Due to its high affinity with both tackifying resins and fillers, high fluidity Lotryl® range is the right choice to formulate hot melt adhesives.

The excellent thermal stability of Lotryl® copolymers allows the hot melt to remain stable for long residence times.

Their high polarity enhances adhesion on various substrates, plain or printed cardboard and plastic films (PE, PS, PET...) .

Butyl acrylate based Lotryl® copolymers exhibit very low glass transition temperature which result in a high flexibility at low temperature, offering more freedom to formulate hot melt adhesives, particularly in deep-freeze packaging.

Beside autoclave copolymers, Arkema introduces new tubular Lotryl HMA copolymers which confer higher mechanical properties and higher melting point. Their improved thermal resistance has been highlighted in various hot melt applications, such as packaging, book-binding and wood-working.

Lotryl® and Lotryl® HMA copolymers are compatible with polyethylene.


Bitumen modification

Polymer Modified Bitumens (PMB) are widely used in road paving to improve durability and quality of heavy traffic roads.

Among the polymers used in bitumen for road paving, EVA is well known for its compatibility with various bitumens as well as the excellent mechanical properties it brings to asphalt (rutting resistance). Under extreme climate conditions, EVA has to be replaced by polymers with better mechanical properties at low temperatures (-20°C to -40°C).

The best compromise between the required end-use properties and the bitumen polymer compatibility can be achieved with EBA copolymers.

In addition, Evatane® and Lotryl® bring cohesive strength, making bitumen more resilient and tougher (thermal and fatigue resistance). These copolymers are also used to produce waterproof roofing membranes.
