Plastoelastomer copolymers for geomembranes, roofing, sound dampening mats and carpet backing

DzBh New Materials Baling® SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene), SEBS (styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene) or SEPS (styrene-propylene-butylene-styrene) copolymers are used as thermoplastic elastomers in geomembranes, roofing, sound dampening mats, etc.


They may often be used in combination with polyolefins, e.g. in blend for flexible combinations with Arkema Evatane® EVA or Lotryl® EMA, or with PE, PP special offers by Speedy Polymers.

DzBh Baling® SIS (styrene isoprene styrene) adhesive copolymer can be used to increase tackiness properties.


Arkema Evatane® EVA and Lotryl® EMA or DzBh New Materials SBS, SEBS or SEPS can also be used as flexible materials to incorporate rubber regrinds from tyres or other sources of elastomers, to create eco-friendly dampening mats.

A stronger adhesion to some supports may be obtained with Orevac® or Lotader® reactive polyolefins.


Ambra guarantees a broad range of the main heat adhesive polyolefins which are used for for any type of carpets and mats backing in constructions and automotive, both in the shape of granules to be micronized by the customer (Evatane® EVA or Lotryl® T EMA, EBA by Arkema) and tailor-made micronized powders with Ambra Powder, available in several colors and size distributions, and various mechanical, physical and chemical features.

A unique sound dampening mat

Opportunity: A customer developed an exclusive proprietary technology to extrude sound dampening mats or sheets and membranes from composites made out of rubber tires regrinds plus polyolefins, and needed to optimize the properties of his final product by choice and concentration of the polymer.

Gas-barrier

Arkema Evasin® EVOH polymer resin has the highest oxygen-barrier properties. But some may not know that Evasin® has great barrier properties also against many other gases, such as those stemming from industrial production or stocking, environmental pollution, etc.


On the other hand Evasin® shows very high WVTR, and thus it can be comined with Arkema tie-layers (Evatane® EVA, Lotryl® and Lotryl® T EMA, or Orevac® and Lotader® reactive polyolefins) or Sipol Sipolprene® TPC-ET for extrusion coating on non-vowen support for complex membranes with breathable plus gas-barrier features, e.g. versus oxygen, radon, industrial gases, polluting vapours, etc.

Rigid insulating sheets and foams

A large variety of grades for rigid sheet extrusion and foaming for sound dampening is available by Lotte Starex® ABS with specific extrusion grades.


Mesgo has a focus on flame retardant (halogen and halogen-free), conductive (carbon black) and mineral filled compounds or concentrated masterbatches on various thermoplastics: Altair® PE, Avior® PP, Izar® PS, ABS, Mirach® PVC.

Mesgo also has a core-competence in flame retardant masterbatches with its SwingAdd® Halogen, Low-Halogen and Halogen-Free.

Mesgo SwingAdd® additive masterbatches help to reduce the temperature degradation, improve the lifetime on UV and oxidation exposure, improve polymer processability, scratch resistance. SwingAdd® are available as single-function additives or as a combined proprieties or colors (combi-batches).

Jazzwhite® and Tangoblack® masterbatches are produced in large volumes at Mesgo Grigno plant, and they show very high concentration and excellent dispersion of the pigments on polyolefins, styrenics, PA and other engineering polymers at very reasonable costs. Color masterbatches are produced at Mesgo Iride Colors, with very high flexibility also for small batches.


Virgin or recycled PP/mineral filled are available with Meplen® or EcoMeplen® by Mepol. Mepol also developed a range of recycled EcoMepron® PS and EcoMeplac® ABS.


Tailor-made formulations and colors – even for small batches – are also available with ColorTech Teclene® PP, Tecstir® PS and Teclan® ABS.


Flexibilization and impact increase in rigid insulation materials (PS, ABS, PVC) is obtained by direct addition of DzBh SBS or SEBS, Arkema Evatane® EVA or Lotryl® EMA, or Sipol Sipolprene® thermoplastic block copolyesters. Ambra Impact PO may be used for recycled styrenics.


Basic polyolefins and polyolefin virgin resins and compounds with special offers, off-specs or slow movings from major world producers are available at Speedy Polymers.

Case Study

Helping cost competitiveness on GPPS foam insulation

Opportunity: Customer makes GPPS foaming for rigid membranes in construction insulation. He modifies flexibility by admixing SBS rubber. However, the high cost and high loading of SBS did not allow him to be competitive to gain new market share.
